For a growing number of men, fitness is no longer just about lifting heavier or running faster. It’s about balance. Longevity. Purpose. And finding environments that push you physically while sharpening you mentally.

That’s exactly where Camp Kaizen comes in — a new breed of hybrid outdoor training experience born not from a boardroom, but from the mountains.

From weekend training to a national movement

Camp Kaizen didn’t start as a business idea. It started as an obsession.

Co-founder George Chatterton was working a demanding corporate job in London but spending most summer weekends in the Lake District training — running trails, hiking peaks and putting himself through long, challenging sessions in nature.

“I never stopped training hard,” George explains. “Even when I was in the city full-time, the mountains were where I reset. Those weekends became my non-negotiable.”

In 2023 and 2024, George began inviting friends and family to join him. The sessions grew. The weekends filled up. And the feedback was clear: people wanted more of this.

The defining moment came halfway down a summer descent of Scafell Pike.

“That’s when it clicked,” says George. “Patrick and I were talking about how powerful these weekends had become. We realised this didn’t need to stay informal — it could help a lot more people.”

His brother Patrick Chatterton adds: “That walk down Scafell was where Camp Kaizen was really born. We weren’t talking about a business — we were talking about building something meaningful that people would come back to every year.”

By 2025, the camps opened to a wider sporting and professional network. Two large-scale weekend camps ran successfully, welcoming 41 attendees, and proving there was a clear gap in the UK fitness space.

Camp Kaizen officially launched soon after, with 10 camps already scheduled for the 2026 summer season.

What Is Camp Kaizen?

Camp Kaizen is the UK’s original hybrid outdoor fitness camp — a multi-day, immersive training experience that blends performance training with outdoor adventure and recovery.

The programme is built around compounding daily sessions, designed to push participants physically while teaching them how to train sustainably.

Core training pillars include:

  • Running (road and trail)
  • Hiking in the Lake District
  • HIIT and strength training (barbells, dumbbells, bodyweight, ergs)
  • Natural cold-water immersion
  • Structured recovery and high-volume nutrition

“We’re not interested in breaking people for the sake of it,” George says. “We want them to leave fitter, more confident and more educated about how to train for life.”

All food and hydration are provided on camp, with brand partners that align with the Kaizen philosophy. Recovery is taken seriously — high-quality nutrition, communal recovery spaces and an environment designed to help people switch off as well as switch on.

The camp itself reflects that balance: glamping-style bell tents, a large covered communal area, and some of the most challenging and scenic terrain the UK has to offer.

Built by athletes – for real life

George’s own background shapes much of Camp Kaizen’s ethos.

A former England 7s rugby player, George competed internationally — including the Hong Kong Sevens at just 19 — before spells with Sale Sharks. A run of serious injuries forced him away from professional rugby, but not away from elite-level training.

During his corporate years, George gained a black belt in kickboxing, won a national championship in 2023, and competed regularly in endurance races and HYROX events. He’s now a qualified Level 3 Personal Trainer.

“What injury taught me was that training has to evolve,” George says. “You can’t chase intensity forever without thinking about sustainability.”

That mindset runs through Camp Kaizen — and it’s reinforced by the people behind it.

George works closely with his father, Terry, who at 53 is still running, lifting and competing in HYROX events. Terry’s own fitness journey and continued training has provided inspiration for the Masters/35+ Training Camp which is a key landmark in the Camp Kaizen summer calendar.

“He’s living proof that this approach works long-term,” George says. “And yes — some days he’s still fitter than me.”

The Kaizen philosophy

At the heart of Camp Kaizen is its name. Kaizen is the philosophy of continuous self-improvement — not overnight transformation, but small, consistent daily actions that compound over time.

“People think they need a total reset,” Patrick says. “But Kaizen is about stacking small wins. The camps give you the structure and mindset to keep improving long after you leave.”

Camp Kaizen isn’t designed to be a one-off experience. It’s an annual checkpoint — a place to test yourself, recalibrate and return to everyday life sharper than before.

Who is Camp Kaizen for?

Camp Kaizen attracts a wide range of attendees, but they share common ground:

  • Men who train hard but want structure
  • Hybrid athletes preparing for races or events
  • Corporate professionals looking to reconnect with physical challenge
  • Anyone who values performance, resilience and community

“It’s not about being elite,” George explains. “It’s about being willing. If you show up ready to work, we’ll meet you there.”

What’s next?

With demand growing, Camp Kaizen is already looking beyond the Lake District.

Plans include:

  • Expanding regionally across the UK
  • Growing its community in major cities
  • Supporting athletes and professionals preparing for races, events and life challenges

Recent London run clubs have already attracted 40+ attendees, showing that the appetite for hybrid, community-led training is only increasing.

“Our goal is simple,” Patrick says. “To create a legitimate platform where people can sharpen themselves — physically and mentally — year after year.”

For men looking for more than just another workout, Camp Kaizen offers something rare: challenge with purpose, intensity with balance, and a community built on continuous improvement.
