A seamless – and dare we say it, faultless – tee from Under Armour, for all kinds of workouts.

Under Armour’s Rush workout gear features minerals embedded in the fabric to reflect your body’s Far Infrared (FIR) heat ‘energy’ back into the muscles to create deeper warmth. That warming effect is supposed to translate to muscle-function gains so you can work harder and recover faster. So does the Rush S/S Tee make into our best workout clothes list?

Men’s Fitness verdict

This lightweight, high-tech and chafe-free tee is designed to handle your toughest sessions, whether you’re lifting, pushing watts in a spin class or legging it about town.
Pros
  • Great flexible fit
  • Good breathability
Cons
  • Infrared benefits aren’t that noticeable

How we tested the best workout tops:

Our team of reviewers are experienced testers of all manner of fitness kit. While testing out this backpack, MF tester Kieran Alger assessed the top in terms of comfort, fit, and sweat-wicking capabilities. He also paid close attention to any high-tech features on offer, such as the inclusion of infrared technology. The testing process involved wearing the top through a range of varied workouts, from longer runs and gym classes to lifting sessions at the gym, to see how the top performed.

It has a nearly seam-free design that helps reduce chafe risk, along with strategically placed engineered mesh ventilation zones.

Under Armour Rush Seamless Legacy Short-Sleeve Tee features

The well-fitting Seamless Legacy Short-Sleeve Tee harnesses Rush technology in a workout top that’s designed to handle your toughest sessions, whether you’re lifting, pushing watts in a spin class or legging it about town.

Made from a soft-knit, four-way stretch fabric, it fits close and contours to your torso so there’s no baggy excess to get in the way of your movements. But it’s also not skin-tight like a compression top, so even if you’re not 8% body-fat ripped, it’s still a forgiving look. The sleeves are cut relatively high, so it’s good for unrestricted upper body drills. I also found that the hem hangs low enough to provide coverage even if you’re dangling from the chin-up bar.

Under Armour Rush Seamless Legacy Short-Sleeve Tee performance

The tee felt light and comfortable against my skin. It has a nearly seam-free design that helps reduce chafe risk, along with strategically placed engineered mesh ventilation zones. Those are mapped to the places you need it most like across the chest and lower back.

That helps keep things cool and when you eventually do work up a sweat, the material wicks well and dries relatively quickly. Even on long, hot runs, I found it didn’t suffer from the chafe-inducing sodden drag I’ve experienced with other tees.

Overall, this is one of the best gym shirts and workout tees that’s ideal for most gym-floor workouts. Pair it with the best gym shoes and best sweatpants around, and you’re onto a winner. It’s light and flexible enough for upbeat studio sessions and perfectly at home on endurance runs, too.
