The Repeat MP Graphic Training Shorts are designed for conventional weightlifting sessions, but can double-up for CrossFit and cardio work.
Myprotein may have started out as a supplements and protein powder brand, but its range of performance gym clothes is impressive and ever-growing – and now includes some of the best gym shorts for men. That’s the conclusion I came to after testing these Repeat MP Graphic training shorts. Read on to find out why.
Men’s Fitness verdict
Light, comfortable, and with decent storage room, these shorts are commendable option. That said, they would definitely benefit from split seams.- Side seam pockets
- Internal draw-cord waistband
- Lightweight design
- A split seam could provide more flexibility
How we test gym shorts
To see how these shorts performed, MF tester Stephen Adams put them through a range of varied workouts, from runs and cardio classes to lifting sessions and hikes. He assessed them for comfort, fit, and sweat-wicking capabilities. He put them through multiple wash cycles to test durability and general wear.
Repeat MP Graphic Training Short design features
With the Repeat MP Graphic Training Shorts, there’s a noticeable lack of bulk, so you can get on with sets and reps in comfort. There are two decent-sized pockets with no zips or fastening, but with plenty of room for your phone or keys.
The outer material feels soft and high quality. There’s no inner lining, which helps them feel lighter and slightly looser around the thigh. With the 7-inch inseam the shorts are a good length and rest a couple of inches above the knee cap.
There’s no split in the inseam, so the shorts can tighten a fraction around the thigh. However, it’s only just noticeable when squatting or running – and not uncomfortable.
The shorts include a drawstring on the inside which removes bulk and keeps things streamlined.
What other gym shorts are worth considering?
As good as these MPs are, they don’t quite match up to the class-leader in my opinion: the Vuori Kore Short. As far as comfort and fit goes, these are hard to beat. They don’t have split seams either, yet the manage to retain a freer feel when you wear them. Sweat-wicking is top notch, and aesthetically, you could wear them to casual social events as well as just at the gym. The only major area which they’re lacking in is pockets – none are large enough for a phone.
You can’t say the same of the Lululemon License To Train 7-Inch short though. So, if you want something that’s a bit more heavy duty but still highly effective as a piece of fitness wear, perhaps consider reading our full review of those next.
