Six protein sources are absorbed at three speeds to maximize repair and recovery.
Protein powders are a fantastic way to fuel the recovery of your muscles after a heavy workout. But, with so many on the market, it’s important to be able to spot the wood from the trees. In this review, I’ll be assessing Crazy Nutrition 100% Tri-Protein to see whether it’s worth adding to your fitness regiment, or if your efforts would be better guided elsewhere. So, having used it to supplement my own workouts, here’s what I found.

How we test protein powders
Men’s Fitness tasked Rob Hobson, a registered nutritionist (AFN) and sports nutritionist (SENr), with trying out each of the protein powders involved in our group test. To ensure a level playing field, Rob only tried the chocolate flavor of each powder. His overall ratings are based on taste, nutritional effectiveness, variety of flavors, texture and solubility. Rob also took into account factors such as the cost per serving and whether or not the packaging is recyclable.
Crazy Nutrition’s 100% Tri Protein has 21g of natural, non-GMO protein in every 30g serving. Its 90.6% protein blend is a mix of whey protein isolate and concentrate, micellar casein, milk protein concentrate, calcium caseinate and hydrolized whey.
It’s low in fat and sugars (at 0.9g and 1.5g per serving respectively), has digestive enzymes, is sweetened with sucralose and is suitable for vegetarians. Its six protein sources are designed to be released in three stages, promoting more effective muscle building, repair and recovery than single whey formulas.
Crazy Nutrition 100% Tri Protein in use
Whether it actually does release in three distinct stages is hard to feel or say, though a month of regular use after moderate and intense workout sessions yielded noticeable results in terms of my next-day recovery. Given that Crazy Nutrition uses six different protein sources, its ingredients list is reassuringly minimal.
A 30g serving of the shake contains just 111 calories when mixed with water (recommended 200-300ml). Each of the three flavors – chocolate, vanilla and salted caramel – contain less than 1g of fats and around 2g of carbs.
The shake mixes well with water to give a nice smooth texture, though it’s a little trickier to gain that consistency in milk. Each of the three flavors tastes pleasant and moreish, with no bitter aftertaste. The salted caramel does taste a little overpowering, and is better if diluted with around 400ml water. While other brands offer a wider variety of flavors, we think three delicious ones is more than enough.
How to buy Crazy Nutrition 100% Tri-Protein
Each serving works out at £1.67, which is on par with most of the powders on test. There’s also subscription service available which offers a useful 30% discount. You can only get Crazy Nutrition shakes online, and in 1kg tubs or pouches, but the subscription service will automate delivery based on your weekly consumption.
Overall, this is one of the best-tasting shakes on test with simple, quality ingredients and a lovely smooth texture. It’s lower in calories than most on test and works out fairly good value, especially if you buy with a subscription.
What other nutritional options should I consider?
If you want to enhance your workouts and recovery with supplements, there are all sorts of avenues you could go down. Sticking with protein for the moment, you don’t necessarily need to consume it as a shake. Instead, if you want something a bit more portable, protein bars can give you the post-workout fix you need instead.
As for other supplements aside from protein, there’s the potential to fall into a rabbit hole, given how much advice from questionable sources can be found online. Fortunately, MF has also compiled a shortlist of the best muscle growth supplements on the market, that can help boost your progress both safely and legally.
