Welcome to the Men’s Fitness Nutrition Awards 2024, featuring the best products for Muscle & Strength, Endurance, and General Health
We know that navigating the world of nutrition can be bewildering, with every company marketing their products as being invaluable to health and fitness. Which is why we’re bringing you the Nutrition Awards 2024: to point you in the right direction and showcase the brands that really are worth your attention.
Every product in the pages that follow – across the categories of Muscle & Strength, Endurance, and General Health – have been tried and tested by an expert team of independent nutritionists (more on those below), with each of the winners selected on the basis of nutritional merit, quality of ingredients and performance benefits.
The entry process
While nutrition brands needed to enter for a chance to be featured in these Awards, the entry process was simple and completely free. So you can be sure products that came out on top did so completely on merit.
The testing process
The below experts tried hundreds of sports nutrition products over a period of at least eight weeks to test the efficacy of each one in real-world situations (before or after a workout, on-the-go, at breakfast, etc). They then selected their finalists based on nutritional merit, quality of ingredients, ease of use, taste and, crucially, performance benefits.

Whey Protein
“Whey protein is a staple in most athletes’ diets,” says Matt Lovell. “And for good reason: it’s digested quickly, absorbed efficiently and generally tastes good. However, when it comes to price, nutritional profile and ingredient lists, there is a lot of variability. Whether you’re looking for a whey concentrate, isolate or hydrolysate, ideally you want a high protein content (20g or more), with low carbs and fat, and without unnecessary fillers and additives.”
WINNER:
Healthspan Elite All Blacks Ultimate Whey Protein Blend
Great flavours, naturally sourced sweetener and a good, simple ingredients list made Healthspan’s Ultimate Whey Protein Blend our winner for the Nutrition Awards 2024. Pure whey protein isolate is high quality and a very pure source of whey protein, meaning it’s absorbed quickly.
Why we like it:
- Natural ingredients
- Readily-absorbed whey isolate rather than concentrate
- Simple ingredients – nothing nasty
What you get:
- 24g protein per serving
- 5.7g naturally occurring BCAAs per serving
- Actazin® digestive enzymes from New Zealand kiwi fruit
- Fully recyclable pouch
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED:
Gainful Protein Powder
Gainful personalises each powder according to your own performance goals (based on a questionnaire). There are additional flavouring packs to adjust the shakes flavour each time you make it, too, which is a nice touch. Added MCT oil makes it useful for semi-fasted or time-restricted eating patterns.
Why we like it:
- Personalised mix
- Nothing nasty
- Addition of keto-assisting nutrients
What you get:
- Protein powder tailored to you
- 19-26g per serving
- Whey, keto and plant-based formulas to suit your needs
- Free from artificial ingredients
Special mention to foodspring Whey Protein (buy here), which boasts a high-quality, simple ingredients list and an impressive 24g protein per serving.
What you get:
- 24g protein
- No added sugar
- Rich in BCAAs and essential amino acids

Vegan Protein
“There’s been a big rise in vegan protein offerings in the last few years,” says Lovell. “Some will choose these as part of a vegan lifestyle, or for digestion, intolerance or allergy reasons to do with the need to avoid milk proteins from whey or casein. Vegan protein amino acid profile will differ slightly depending on the blend they use. Pea protein isolate is higher in glutamine and BCAAs, like whey. In testing, I was looking for isolates where possible, or hydrolysed protein options, as they will be generally higher in key aminos, potentially enabling great muscle protein.”
WINNER:
Nutravita Vegan Protein Powder
This one was used fastest out of all those opened for testing, which is testament to how good it tastes. Fortunately, it backs up flavour with substance: as well as a powerful 25g plant-based protein, you get 26 vitamins and minerals, and 18 amino acids.
Why we like it:
- Simple ingredients
- Enzymes added to aid digestion
- Loaded with extra vitamins and minerals
- Great taste
What you get:
- 25g protein
- Added enzymes
- 100% natural and sugar-free
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED:
Nasty Vegan Super Shake
This is nicely enhanced with a vitamin and mineral blend. The enzyme blend is a useful addition to assist with protein digestion and absorption. It tastes great and is filled with nothing but the good stuff.
Why we like it:
- Added vitamin and mineral blend
- No nasty ingredients
What you get:
- 25g protein
- 26 vitamins and minerals
- 18 amino acids
- 4g BCAAs
Special mention to SCI-MX Pro V-Gain (£17.99, sci-mx.co.uk), which packs in a huge 35g protein per serving.
What you get:
- 35g protein
- BCAAs
- Fortified with micronutrients

Clear Protein
More squash than milkshake, clear protein is light and refreshing – and often less calorific than whey protein alternatives. If you find conventional shakes a bit sickly, clear protein could be your best bet. “It’s worth noting that all of these mixed with a fair amount of foam,” says Lovell. “It does go down eventually, but you need to mix the shake, then wait for the foam to reduce back before drinking.”
WINNER:
Protein Works Clear Diet Whey Protein
As well as 20g protein, Protein Works’ Clear Whey contains a few very useful additions, including Acetyl L Carnitine for assisting fatty acid transport into cells; green tea extract for additional fat-burning potential; and a B-vitamin blend for energy production and some methylation support. Added chromium also helps with normal glucose and insulin metabolism.
Why we like it:
- Added fat-burning ingredients
- Great taste
- Mixes well
What you get:
- 20g whey protein isolate
- Just 82 calories
- Six different flavours
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED:
PhD Smart Clear Whey Protein Powder
PhD has used hydrolysate whey, the purest and most expensive, ultra-refined whey. As such, it’s a very pure product (other than the sweetener sucralose). Whey protein hydrolysate has the highest insulin index of almost any food, so to help spike insulin post-workout and provide plentiful amino acids this is a solid product.
Why we like it:
- Purest source of whey in this category
- Simple ingredients list
What you get:
- 20g whey protein hydrolysate
- 85 calories
- Less than 1g sugar
Special mention to foodspring Clear Whey (£29.99, foodspring.co.uk), which contains 26g protein per serving – high for a clear protein.
What you get:
- 26g protein
- Sugar-free
MUSCLE & STRENGTH
Protein Bars
Protein bars are the snack of choice for anyone leading an active lifestyle, providing an on-the-go alternative to more cumbersome shakes and time-intensive meals. “In picking the winner in this category,” says Lovell, “I was looking for natural ingredients where possible, and obviously the grams of protein per serving.”
WINNER:
Barebell Protein Bar
Offering a really delicious range of flavours, the main problem you’ll have here is not eating too many and getting the ‘laxative effect’ listed on the website. There’s a decent minimum 15g protein per bar, and a nice melt-in-the-mouth softness to the texture.
Why we like it:
- 12 genuinely tasty flavours
- Good amount of protein
What you get:
- 15g-16g protein
- 213 calories
- 21g carbs
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED:
The Protein Ball Co Protein Balls
For completely natural ingredients, a sweet-and-salty taste, and some added nutrients, The Protein Ball Co is the best choice if clean eating is your number-one priority. OK, so the 10g protein per bag isn’t a match for other bars, but that still makes for a muscle-building snack – and a natural, healthy one at that.
Why we like it:
- No artificial sweeteners
- Natural ingredients
What you get:
- 10g protein
- Better taste than most protein bars
- Added vitamins B12, C and D3
Special mention to the SCI-MX Ultra Mass Protein Bar (buy here) which, at 25g protein and 375 calories per bar, is the best choice for anyone who finds it difficult to pack on muscle.
What you get:
- 25g protein
- 375 calories
- 1.5g fibre
MUSCLE & STRENGTH
Vegan Protein Bars
Plant-based protein bars have come a long way, and most now not only match whey protein for post-workout appeal, but also in terms of their recovery credentials. Blends, or single-protein sources – such as pea, soy, hemp, rice, pumpkin seed to name a few – are widely available. Many people opt for rice and pea blends, as they tend to be gentle on the stomach and provide high amounts of the essential amino acids.
WINNER:
foodspring Vegan Protein Bar
Great taste and good-quality ingredients make foodspring our number-one vegan protein bar. The use of pea protein isolate provides a solid, high-quality protein source for a protein bar, and a lack of sucralose – a synthetic sweetener – make these as a much healthier snack too.
Why we like it:
- Tastes excellent
- Decent amount of protein
- No added sucralose
What you get:
- 18g protein
- Soy- and gluten-free
- 5g fibre
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED:
Protein Works Ridiculous Vegan Protein Bar
These are perhaps the best-tasting bars I tested, with just the right amount of sweetness. They’re just pipped to the post by foodspring because of the higher protein content, but 15g is still a worthy amount. Again, these are naturally sweetened, with no sucralose, and contain over 7g gut-healthy fibre per bar.
Why we like it:
- Top-tier taste
- Naturally sweetened
- Free from nasties
What you get:
- 15g protein
- Free from gluten and palm oil
- No artificial colours, flavours or preservatives
Special mention to Healthspan Elite All Blacks Plant-Based HiLo® Protein Bar (buy here), which has a nice amount of crunch and mighty 21g protein. Contains maltitol, though, which – although a safe sugar substitute – can disagree with some people’s guts.
What you get:
- 21g protein
- 7.8g fibre
- Informed Sport approved (suitable for competing athletes)
MUSCLE & STRENGTH
Pre-workouts
“This is a really interesting and varied category,” says Lovell, “and it was hard to pick a winner. In testing, I was looking for a prolonged effect, without much of a ‘come down’ – although some levelling off is inevitable after taking stimulants. I was also looking for products without too many added artificial sweeteners, which can be unavoidable in sports nutrition. It would be great to see more of a shift towards natural sweeteners.”
WINNER:
foodspring Energy Aminos
What I really like about foodspring’s pre-workout offering is the mix of the amino acids L-arginine and L-citrulline, which contribute to better muscle pumps. Energy Aminos also contains higher levels of beta alanine than other pre-workouts, which has been shown to increase exercise capacity and reduce fatigue.
Why we like it:
- Prolonged effect
- Nothing nasty
- Added vitamins
What you get:
- 170mg caffeine
- 8.8g protein
- Essential aminos
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED:
SCI-MX X-Plode Pre-Workout
A really well-constructed pre-workout, containing high levels of L-citrulline and beta alanine (3.2g per serving), alongside brain-supporting nootropics DMAE and choline. Magnesium is nice to see in there, too, for heart health. Worth noting that 250mg caffeine per serving is a lot, so not one for the caffeine-sensitive.
Why we like it:
- Good source of performance-boosting L-citruline
- Most noticeable stimulant effect
- Best use of multiple ingredients
What you get:
- 250mg caffeine
- 3.2g beta alanine
- 6g L-citruline malate
Special mention to Protein Works Raze Extreme (buy here), which provides the longest-lasting effect of any pre-workouts on test, with minimal ‘crashing’. Added theanine helps balance and prolong the caffeine effect.
What you get:
- 150mg EnXtra®, shown to heighten the effects of caffeine
- 200mg caffeine
- 3.5g creatine
MUSCLE & STRENGTH
Creatine
“I’m a big fan of creatine, and it’s one of the best-studied sports supplements,” says Lovell. “It’s valuable not only for muscle and strength, but also reducing fatigue and improving cognitive function. Micronised versions, in which the creatine particles are smaller and so absorb quicker, get a higher vote from me.”
WINNER:
Protein Works Creatine Extreme
The only creatine loading complex in this category, with a hefty 7g creatine – delivered from three different premium-sourced creatines – Creatine Exteme could just as easily sit within a caffeine-free pre-workouts category – and win that too. The inclusion of AAKG, glycine, taurine, beta-alanine, dextrose and chromium for insulin support make this a clear winner.
Why we like it:
- Big dose of creatine per serving
- Can be used as pre-workout stimulant
- Range of tasty flavours
What you get:
- 7g creatine
- Essential aminos
- ‘Creatine super blend’ made up of three premium-sourced creatines
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED:
Known Creatine Gummies
These are not only genuinely delicious, but the glucose content means they make for brilliant intra-workout use. 3g creatine per serving is towards the lower end, but for a quick top-up these are the best gummies I tested.
Why we like it:
- Delicious, natural flavour
- Easily portable
What you get:
- 3g creatine
- Pineapple flavour
- 6 gummies per serving
Special mention to VOW Creatine Chews (buy here), which pack 5g creatine per serving and are available in three fruity flavours.
What you get:
- 5g creatine
- 3 calories per chew
- 100% vegan

Protein Cereals
We’d all love a well-balanced, nutritionally complete breakfast every morning, but sometimes life gets in the way. When that happens, you need convenience that doesn’t come with a health cost. These products achieve exactly that, providing a hit of protein to kick-start the recovery process first thing. “What an excellent idea,” says Lovell. “An enhanced, easy-to-make solution to all the low-protein, high-sugar breakfast options out there.”
WINNER:
Protein Works Superfood Breakfast Bowl
High-quality, nutrient-dense ingredient choices – including slow-release carbs for sustained energy, and healthy fats in the form of various seeds – and a substantial 15g protein makes Protein Works’ Superfood Breakfast Bowl my stand-out protein cereal. Easy to make – add two scoops, some milk, then pop in the microwave – and packed with the right stuff to get your day off to a flyer.
Why we like it:
- Best for variety of options
- Good amount of protein
- High in fibre and nothing but healthy ingredients
What you get:
- 15g protein
- 281 calories
- 100% real food ingredients and four flavour options
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED:
ELEAT High Protein Cereal
ELEAT uses soy protein, which may divide opinion, but the taste and serious levels of crunch makes for a pleasant recovery-boosting breakfast option. You get 8g fibre per serving, too, which contributes to good gut health, and the five distinct flavour options should offer something for everyone.
Why we like it:
- Extremely crunchy
- Good amount of protein
- Recyclable pouches
What you get:
- 15g protein
- 8g fibre
- Five flavour options
Special mention to The Great British Porridge Co High Protein, Low Sugar Porridge Pouch (buy here), which is all-natural, sweetened with dates, and the 9.4g protein is easily topped up with a scoop of your favourite powder.
What you get:
- 9.4g protein
- 100% natural ingredients
- Clean, healthy taste

Energy Gels
When you’re struggling halfway through a run or ride, there are now a wide variety of gels – beyond the high-fat, high-sugar chocolate bars of old – for providing an instant hit of energy, getting your levels back up in an instant.
WINNER:
Protein Rebel Maple Ignite Energy Gel
Just wow! I tried this gel (if you can really call it that, as it’s just two ingredients – maple syrup and salt) on a cold and wet trail run in November. As soon as the sweet, salty syrup hit my tongue it bounced off my taste buds. I was instantly energised and the weather suddenly felt like less of an issue. The majority contain added electrolytes, too, to aid hydration and focus.
Why we like it:
- Great flavour – nice amount of salt to enhance the maple
- More runny texture than most gels makes it easier to consume
- Just two ingredients – no thickeners or sweeteners
What you get:
- 24g carbs
- Naturally-occurring electrolytes (110mg sodium, 90mg potassium and 27mg calcium)
- 100% natural ingredients
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED:
Precision Fuel & Hydration PF90 Gel
These are perfect for anyone doing ultra-endurance activities with high carbohydrate demands. Sports nutrition literature suggests if you’re exercising for three or more hours and you want to push hard, you should be aiming for 60-90g carbs per hour – that’s a lot! The larger serving in these gels makes hitting your carbohydrate requirements a breeze, but my advice would be to slowly increase your intake to train your gut to tolerate those very high numbers.
Why we like it:
- Easy to gulp down, even when you’re a bit dehydrated
- Neutral flavour that’s perfect when you’re tired and facing ‘flavour fatigue’
- Perfect if you’ve been on the move for three hours or more
What you get:
- 90g carbs per pouch (each pouch contains three servings)
- No artificial ingredients
- Neutral taste
Special mention to the Healthspan Elite Energy Gel (buy here). I particularly liked the passion fruit option, which is made from actual fruit rather than ‘natural flavouring’ and contains 24g fast-acting carbs.
What you get:
- Added electrolytes (sodium, potassium and calcium)
- 24-25g carbs
- Informed Sport approved
ENDURANCE
Energy Chews
Energy chews and gummies have burst onto the scene as the more substantial alternative to liquid gels. For anyone who finds gels too sickly, chews can be a more pleasant eating experience – though you’ll often need to consume a few to get the same carb hit as one gel.
WINNER:
Healthspan Elite Kick-Start Caffeine Gum
Minty and refreshing, the best bit is that the caffeine is absorbed in your mouth (as opposed to through your digestive system) so you will get that energy lift quicker than from a caffeine product you have to ingest. That makes it a helpful weapon to have when experiencing a sudden dip. In the past, I have recommended this product to clients who need / want a caffeine strategy but don’t like coffee. Start chewing 15 minutes before your session (remove before you start if you’re doing high intensity) and see how you fly!
Why we like it:
- Hits quickly
- Great taste – often you can taste added caffeine, but not here
- Informed Sport approved, so suitable for professional athletes
What you get:
- 100mg caffeine in each piece of gum
- Quick absorption through lining of the mouth
- Vegan-friendly
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED:
Science in Sport Beta Fuel Energy Chew
Kind of like the texture of raw jelly, if you ever ate that as a child (just me?), with a whopping 46g carb per serving. This chew really packs a big fuelling punch, while being small in volume. That makes it perfect for those who struggle to eat/fuel on the move. It’s easy to get down, not too chewy, and the flavour is easy to handle on the go.
Why we like it:
- Big hit of carbs
- Easy to consume – not too chewy or sticky
- I found myself actively looking forward to these chews over others I tried
What you get:
- 45g carbs
- 190 calories
- Vegan-friendly
Special mention to Caffeine Bullet Ginger Roars Energy Chews (buy here), which have a nice gingery taste with a caffeine kick. This is a great concept for a product, because ginger can cut through other relentlessly sweet-tasting fuelling options.
What you get:
- 33mg caffeine
- 3.7g carbs
- No artificial sweeteners
ENDURANCE
Energy Drinks
Looking for a natural lift without loads of sugar and additives? These energy drinks are ideal for an instant, hydrating boost – with added functional ingredients for focus and alertness.
WINNER:
Precision Fuel & Hydration Carb Only Drink Mix
This is the perfect product for those who really want to personalise their nutrition for endurance and ultra-endurance performance. There are no electrolytes by design, to allow you to vary the amount of sodium you consume. That’s smart, because different people will have different sodium requirements, so this product brings carbs at whatever quantity you want, and you can then add the electrolytes you need. Don’t know how much you need? Just scan a QR code that comes with your products and book a free call with one of their nutritionists. Sorted.
Why we like it:
- Allows for personalised carb and electrolyte intake
- Neutral flavour to prevent flavour fatigue
- 100% recyclable packaging
What you get:
- 120g carbs per litre
- No artificial ingredients
- Informed Sport approved
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED:
Cellucor C4 Smart Energy
I’m partial to a nootropic ingredient – something that can enhance cognitive function – which is why I like C4 Smart Energy. As well as caffeine, these cans contain choline bitartrate, which is a precursor to acetylcholine (a neurotransmitter in the brain). Basically, this is a chemical in the brain that helps us think. Over the day acetylcholine becomes a little depleted, resulting in mental fatigue, so a C4 in the morning gives energy for the start of the day and offsets mental fatigue at the end. Smart energy indeed.
Why we like it:
- Nootropic blend for all-day mental clarity
- Caffeine, but not too much
- Great flavours with Mango, Red Berry Yuzu and Watermelon
What you get:
- 106mg caffeine
- Six calories
- Three flavour options
Special mention to Science in Sport GO Energy Powder (buy here), which is a very solid all-rounder, containing 47g carbs and some electrolytes. If you want to experiment with some liquid fuelling, this is a good place to start.
What you get:
- 47g carbs
- 189 calories
- Vegan-friendly

Electrolytes
Endurance sessions mean attention to hydration and electrolyte balance. Sweating is your body’s defence system against overheating. Unfortunately, though, when you sweat you lose some important minerals known as electrolytes, including sodium and potassium. Electrolytes support a number of bodily functions, including energy production and fluid balance. Top your reserves up with the following products.
WINNER:
Precision Fuel & Hydration PF 1500 (packets)
This product comes out on top, because it has the best formulation for endurance sports, including significantly more sodium compared with the other electrolytes. That’s what you need if you’re going long distance, because sodium is by far the electrolyte we lose the most of and therefore have a greater need to replace. A small amount of added sugar helps to activate the sodium-glucose cotransporters, boosting hydration further. Finally, the amount of carbs has been well thought through, because it is ‘hypotonic’, which again is better for hydration.
Why we like it:
- Great for heavy sweaters, with high sodium losses
- Fantastic, well-thought-out formulation
- Ability to personalise (by choosing the 500, 1000 or 1500 product)
What you get:
- 1,500mg sodium
- No artificial ingredients
- Informed Sport approved
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED:
Precision Fuel & Hydration PF 1500 (tablets)
Precision Fuel & Hydration takes second spot too, because – as the name suggests, the products are precise. They provide exact drinking directions, which mean you get a consistent amount of sodium per litre of fluid consumed. In fact, that’s what the PH1500 stands for: there will be 1,500mg of sodium in this product per litre, when mixed according to their pack instructions. I often advise this as part of a specific ‘hyperhydration’ sports nutrition strategy for my endurance clients, before they compete in the heat.
Why we like it:
- Perfect for a hyperhydration strategy
- Unflavoured to reduce flavour fatigue
- Highly specific directions for use (great for providing consistent results)
What you get:
- 1,500mg sodium
- 16 calories per tablet
- Vegan-friendly
Special mention to Healthspan Elite Activ Hydrate (buy here), which is ideal for anyone not doing super-long endurance sessions (less than three hours), but do want to top up their electrolytes.
What you get:
- 300mg sodium
- Citrus and berry flavours
- Informed Sport approved

Energy Supplements
Beyond gels, chews and other mid-effort pick-me-ups, there’s a range of supplements designed to be taken on a daily basis. These products support not only your endurance performance, but day-to-day vitality and mental focus.
WINNER:
Science in Sport Beta Alanine
Beta-alanine has been shown to increase performance during high-intensity efforts lasting between one and four minutes. However, to enjoy this energy boost you need to have 4-6g per day for a minimum of four weeks. So even if it’s is in your pre-workout, you’re probably not getting the benefits because you need to properly load on it. This SiS product allows you to do just that. My advice would be to have five capsules daily for four to ten weeks. You may experience ‘beta tingles’, but they’re completely harmless.
Why we like it:
- Made for high-intensity efforts
- Not mixed with other ingredients, allowing you to get your dose right
- Beta-alanine is supported by science for its efficacy when loaded correctly
What you get:
- 1.6g beta alanine
- Tablet form
- Suitable for vegetarians
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED:
Dirtea Cordyceps Mushroom Tea Powder
Cordyceps mushrooms are known for their energy-giving properties. The active compound in cordyceps helps the body produce adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which is found in every cell and performs crucial energy-giving processes. ATP supplementation has been shown to improve everything from muscular strength and power, to endurance. Currently, I’m adding this powder to a mid-afternoon miso soup snack, in which the flavours combine really well.
Why we like it:
- Versatile powder – add it to soups, foods or drink as tea
- Large serving of cordyceps
- Sustained energy throughout the day
What you get:
- 100% organic
- Earthy, nutty taste
- Third-party batch tested
Special mention to The Herbtender Rise & Shine (buy here). These tablets contain a blend of panax ginseng and reishi mushroom, which contain compounds to improve energy and focus, and boost immunity.
What you get:
- Clean, natural ingredients
- Sustainable packaging
- Vegan-friendly

- Personalised meal plans designed by expert nutritionists
- Adaptability of meal plans in accordance with training goals
- Good-quality ingredients sourced from trusted suppliers
What you get:
- Tailored meals based on nutritionist recommendations
- Chef-made food
- Accompanying app to track macros

GENERAL HEALTH
Snack Bars
Snack choice can make or break a busy day. Choose a junky, high-sugar option and your increased productivity is likely to end with an energy crash. But snack on something that’s healthy and nutritious, and you’ll get the energy boost you need to make it to mealtime.
WINNER:
foodspring Protein Balls
These are an excellent option for anyone looking for a healthy snack that’s naturally high in protein. The ingredients list is pleasantly short, given the ultra-processed nature of many snacks currently on the market. This product is predominantly made from dates and cashews, which means it is also a natural source of other nutrients. The use of pea and brown rice protein is a good option for a vegan snack, too, creating a high-quality protein source containing all the essential amino acids.
Why we like it:
- Nourishing protein snack
- Made from natural ingredients
- Short, clean ingredients list
What you get:
- 8g protein
- 186 calories
- Just seven ingredients and nothing artificial
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED:
Magic Spoon Treats Combo Pack
These are a fun snack with a solid nutritional profile, offering a generous source of fibre and protein, as well as being low in sugar. The bars are made with whey protein, and the soft texture is reminiscent of some favourite childhood snacks – only much healthier. The list of ingredients does feel a little long versus some of the other snacks on the market, but that doesn’t necessarily make them unhealthy.
Why we like it:
- A good source of protein and fibre
- Something different to a traditional protein bar
- Keto-friendly, with just 2g carbs
What you get:
- 16 cereal bars
- 12g protein
- 2g carbs and 1g sugar
Special mention to One Good Thing Protein Bars (buy here), which are a good source of protein and fibre, and feature a novel way of packaging that saves on waste.
What you get:
- 130 calories
- 7.5g protein
- 100% natural ingredients

Digestive Supplements
Digestive supplements are having a moment, as a growing bank of data supports the role that ‘good’ bacteria and digestive enzymes play in everything from physical fitness to mental wellbeing.
WINNER:
Seed DS-01® Daily Synbiotic
This is an impressive synbiotic supplement (containing pre and probiotics) that’s heavily backed by science and quality engineering. The formulation contains over 50-billion bacteria measured in AFU, which is believed to be a more accurate measure than CFU. GENERAL HEALTH
Brain Health
Nootropics are the new kids on the health supplement block. They’re ‘smart drugs’, containing compounds that have been shown to improve cognition, focus, mood and stress resistance. It’s still an emerging area, so look for brands that can prove there’s genuine research behind their claims.
WINNER:
Thesis
This is a truly innovative product and service from a brand that recognises nootropics are not a one-size-fits-all solution. Thesis tailors its packages to suit your individual needs, which includes health goals and brain chemistry. There is plenty of science to back up their claims, and the ingredients chosen are based on clinical trials to prove their effectiveness on cognition. The process seems simple and there is ongoing support to adapt your blend, so your supplements can evolve with you as you use them.
Why we like it:
- Personalised nootropic blends
- Good-quality ingredients backed by clinical trials
- Support to tailor your supplements as your needs evolve
What you get:
- Build your own nootropics box

It’s a neat combination of compounds in one capsule, with the doses on offer shown to be beneficial.
Why we lIke it:
- Good combination of ingredients that have been well-researched for their sleep benefits
- Blend also targets anxiety, which is a key sleep marauder

While it’s always wise to take a food-first approach to nutrition, a simple multivitamin is a fairly low-cost way of ensuring that your body is getting everything it needs. Seek out products with limited fillers and bulking agents.

The unique delivery method makes this spray a convenient way to bridge any gaps in your diet. But not only is it handy; absorbing nutrients sublingually can actually be more efficient in some cases, especially with vitamins D and B12. The blend of nutrients offers key health benefits to cover the areas you want a multivitamin to support, rather than ‘over-prescribing’ in very high doses. Health benefits covered by the supplement include boosting bone health and energy metabolism, fatigue reduction, healthier skin, cognition, vision, and immunity.

A high-quality unfiltered kombucha. The sugar content is lower than many other products on the market, and you can taste that when you drink it. The brand has clearly taken a lot of effort to produce a clean, all-natural product. It’s a rich source of probiotic cultures and antioxidants – produced in the traditional way, in small glass jars, for a richer flavour. There are four flavour options, but I particularly enjoy the crisp Ginger-Lemon.
