How we tested the best sweatpants
Like all of our reviewers, Kieran Alger is an experienced tester of all manner of fitness kit. While testing out these sweatpants, he was mainly looking at fit, comfort and style, however Kieran also paid close attention to the fabrics used and whether they offered specific sporty features like 360-degree stretch or moisture-wicking abilities. In addition to that, he also made note of any additional features, like pockets, drawstring waists and elasticated cuffs.
Gymshark Sport Joggers features
They’re made from a thin and light 92% polyester, 8% elastane fabric mix that’s superbly stretchy for maximum flexibility and freedom of movement. They have a lovely soft lining that boosts comfort and feels soft but I found it to be supportive too.
Style-wise, the finish is shinier and sportier than most. These have a much more ‘just worked out at the gym‘ than ‘off to a fancy brunch’ look.
Storage is limited to two classic front zippered pockets. I found they were both big enough to holster larger smartphones but the mesh material was a little loose and there’s a bit of bounce when you’re getting stuck into more vigorous moves.
There are eight color options and seven sizes to choose from, from XS to 3XL.
Gymshark Sport Joggers: performance on test
I found them to be great for a wide range of drills, from jogging warm-ups to deep lunges and dynamic stretches. They’re also not too heavy for more intense sessions. I even managed some light recovery treadmill runs and am sure these will work a treat on cold winter runs, too.
The tighter fit isn’t quite second-skin close but the tapered slim fit hugs more than the On Sweatpants and the Lululemon License To Train sweats we also tested. So you’ll need to prefer a more dialed-in fit. The flip side is, there’s nothing loose or baggy to get in your way.
Up top, the wide, I found the heavy-duty drawstring waistband stayed put nicely to protect my dignity during workouts. Also the ankle cuff elastic here is much less aggressive. I didn’t have any trouble from legs rising up, even on the biggest stretch drills. Unfortunately, they’re still too narrow to slip on and off over your shoes, though.
