While these shorts will appeal to those focusing on running and cardio workouts, you’ll be surprised how well they work in the gym too.
Having the right gym shorts is one of the quickest keys to success when working out. Nobody performs well in clothes which aren’t comfortable, whether it’s the material, the fit, the weight, or whatever else might nag away at you while you’re trying to focus on the exercise. Fortunately, I’m on a mission to find the best gym shorts on the market to help you choose the right pair. Up next, it’s the turn of the Under Armour Iso-Chill Run 2-in-1 shorts. So, let’s see how they get on.
Men’s Fitness verdict

How we test gym shorts
To see how these shorts performed, MF tester Stephen Adams put them through a range of varied workouts, from runs and cardio classes to lifting sessions and hikes. He assessed them for comfort, fit, and sweat-wicking capabilities. He put them through multiple wash cycles to test durability and general wear.
Where versatility is concerned, these Iso-Chill Run 2-in-1 shorts are undoubtedly some of the best men’s gym shorts. If you like running, CrossFit or gym workouts, they’re a great choice. Here’s why:
Under Armour Iso-Chill 2-in-1 short design features
As well as a 7-inch inseam, these shorts give you compression support with excellent skin cooling capabilities. The outer shorts only have a 5-inch inseam but combine will with the longer liner to offer flexibility and comfort.
The shorts are sleek and streamlined, and feel well fitted and aerodynamic. There are no pockets in the outer shorts, emphasising their credentials as runners’ shorts. However the Iso-Chill Run 2-in-1 shorts do offer a hidden pocket in the liner that is big enough for a phone, key and bank card.
I found the shorts to be a good length, with the inner lining sitting around 4 inches above the knee cap. This is shorter than most 7 inch shorts, but means they work well for short- and long-distance running. That’s because there’s no restrictions around the lower thighs or knees to cause discomfort. There’s also a large split in the outer seam so you can move freely, without restriction.
How do these shorts perform?
I tested the shorts with circuit training and gym workouts and they felt equally comfortable in all settings. The Iso-Chill Run 2-in-1 shorts are very light and while the inner and outer fabric is thin, the shorts still feel strong, stretchy and robust.
Are there any other shorts I should consider?
Overall, my opinion of these Under Armour shorts is largely positive, however they’re not the only good option on the market. If we’re talking about 7-inch inseam shorts in particular, then my top alternative pick would be the Lululemon License To Train Lined 7-inchers. These are wonderfully comfortable and also have inner compression lining, with the added benefit of extra storage options.
It’s a similar story with the Fabletics The One 7-inch short, though those are even more versatile. Sure, it’s cool to be able to do running sessions and gym sessions in the same shorts, but these from Fabletics are even designed to tackle the swimming pool. Or, if ultimate comfort is your number one priority, then the Vuori Kore 7-inch short has got to be on your shopping list.
7-inch shorts aren’t ideal for every circumstance though. In particular, serious circuit training can call for a 3-inch short instead, or a 5-inch short if you don’t want something super-minimal.
